Black Artists Gather

Black Artists Gather is a recurring residency supporting emerging and established Black artists through offering dedicated studio space, time, and resources to engage with their practices and each other. Black artists will connect in a nurturing environment, engage in meaningful ways and reacquaint themselves with nature. We seek to subvert the gaze that erases the Black body in the BC demographic. We encourage sharing knowledge about the local ecologies, nature, and wildlife of the Kootenay region, and seek to reclaim the Black body and Black experience in outdoor and rural/remote spaces. We prioritize the Black community to engage with nature, place, self-determination, and community building. We hope to provide artists with an oasis in which to pursue their research, project development, or production activities that best serve their practice and personal aims.
