Emerging Residency Leaders

Emerging Residency Leaders is an ongoing project proving space for a collective of emerging residency leaders of colour to connect, gather, and foster connection between residencies. The collective includes Mic Diño Boekelmann of The Orange Door Artist Residency (Princeton, New Jersey), Felicia Holman of BuckTown Baton Residency (Chicago, Illinois), Allessandra Santos Pye of The Chyrsalis Institute (Kalamazoo, Michigan) and Marnie Temple of Empire of Dirt Residency (Creston, BC).

As a collective of four emerging residency leaders,

we develop nurturing systems for Black, Indigenous and Persons of colour

we represent the spirit of place, awareness, leadership and accessibility

In October 2021, the four leaders met at an online conference for emerging residency leaders. Alessandra reached out to a number of participants seeking further connection, and in January the four leaders began meeting every other week online. In June of 2022, Boekelmann, Santos Pye and Holman travelled to Creston, BC committed to a deeper connection; the group met again in Creston in 2023. The group continues to gather over zoom and are committed to annual residencies at EoD cooking up tangible ways of making a difference to our communities.
